Ontinyent lies inland in the province of Valencia, in the Vall d'Albaida, about 90 km from Valencia city. This guide brings together every way of getting here and getting around.

By car

  • From Valencia: about 90 km, roughly one hour, by motorway via Xàtiva.
  • From Alicante: about an hour and a quarter, via Alcoi.
  • Airports: the nearest are Valencia (about an hour) and Alicante-Elche (just over an hour).

Once here, see where to park and, if you drive an electric car, the EV charging points.

By train

Ontinyent has a station on the Renfe Valencia – Xàtiva – Alcoi line.

Important: the Xàtiva – Alcoi section, where Ontinyent is, is closed for renovation, with reopening expected between late 2026 and 2027. In the meantime:

  • From Valencia, take the train to Xàtiva.
  • From Xàtiva to Ontinyent and Alcoi, Renfe runs replacement buses. Some stops are not at the stations, so check where the bus stops.

Times and tickets: renfe.com or +34 912 320 320.

By bus

  • To Valencia: ALSA links Ontinyent with Valencia bus station several times a day on weekdays, with fewer services at weekends and on holidays. It leaves from the fairground stop (Avinguda del Benicadell). Information: alsa.es or +34 902 422 242.
  • To Xàtiva and nearby villages: Autocares La Concepción links Ontinyent with Xàtiva (stopping at the new hospital) and other towns in the area. Information: +34 962 38 03 62.

Timetables change often: always check with each company.

Free town bus

Since 1 January 2020, Ontinyent's town bus has been free for everyone. Two lines link the neighbourhoods with the centre, the hospital and the station. Timetables and routes on the Town Council website.

On special days, such as La Fira or All Saints' Day, there are usually extra services.

On foot

Ontinyent's centre is compact: the Vila old town, Plaça Major, the museums and the Municipal Market are all a few minutes' walk from each other. Even the Pou Clar is about half an hour on foot. Everything is on the Ontinyent map.
