Around 9 October, the Llombo quarter is decked out with Valencian flags to celebrate both Valencian Community Day and its own festival, which grew up around the street named after King James I the Conqueror.
The programme
There is a street decoration contest, food contests and parades. The 9th is the big day, with the dansà (folk dance) and fireworks. The town council also marks 9 October officially and, after the civic ceremony, visits several of the town's neighbourhoods.
The Aplec de Gegants i Cabets
Every four years, since 1994, Ontinyent hosts the Aplec de Gegants i Cabets (gathering of giants and big-heads) on the last weekend of October: figures from all over fill the streets in a friendly get-together, a gift to local people, who have always loved their own figures.
